I use one with a 3/8 mesh which works out about right. I've found it helpful to bring along a plastic sifter used for gold nuggets. The device vibrates and has an audible tone which directs you toward the target. I'm paying about two bucks a piece for mine from a car battery store in Palatka. In any case, I have better luck with high quality batteries. The terminals can become a little lose (I think) which causes it to shut off prematurely, or maybe the battery was just getting low. Buy high quality 9-Volt batteries, cheaper versions don't seem to seat right sometimes.

Just study some of the Youtubes out there and you'll see what I mean. And let me tell ya, it can find stuff! You'll have to do some extra studying when using it in saltwater as it will give off false readings. Katie, the sales rep, was exceptionally helpful.
